Few Words On: The Dead Weather - Horehound
Release Date: July 14, 2009
Label: Third Man Records (Warner Bros.)
First the plus'
- Awesome album cover and PR photos
- Nice Blues rock sound
Now the Minus'
- Easily forgettable
- No immediate stand out tracks
So in summary Jack White has a ear for a good sound, he's proven this multiple times over the years but the best thing that this band has going for them is their famous drummer. My first impression was the songs are easily forgettable but don't get me wrong it is an enjoyable listen and there are some great moments but few months down the line (or even weeks) am I going to come back to this, probably not. Now if White handled guitars on this album it might be a different review but he didn't and it is what it is.

Few Words On: Busdriver - Jhelli Beam
Label: Anti-
Release Date: June 9, 2009
At first listen, Jhelli Beam has few rough gems here and there but...
Busdriver is impressive as usual with is vocal acrobatics and 1000 words a minute delivery but according to Busdrivers intro line to the album, "Conscious rap failed us" but that doesn't mean he's giving up or conforming.
The album starts out strong and very impressive as usual but then slowing sinks into an everything-I-got-at-once haze with BD's schizo delivery and beats with perhaps some not so fully realized ideas. That isn't necessary a bad thing but at first try the listener gets overwhelmed looking for a track to latch onto to keep from getting caught up in the vortex that's BD's hurricane of a delivery.
Its not that Busdriver doesn't know what everyone wants; "Club anthemns, thats what they want. This is not it but I"m going to give it a go." BD proclaims on the last track "Sorry, Fuckers". He's still perfectly alright going against the mainstream.
From his last album, RoadKillOvercoat
